2024 MLB Season Dates
The full 2024 MLB season, including both the regular season and postseason, runs from 20 March – 2 November. All-Star Week, scheduled for 12–16 July at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, is generally considered the season’s midpoint.

2024 MLB Regular Season
The MLB regular season will take place between 20 March – 29 September in 2024.
All 30 MLB teams are involved in the regular season. Teams are split into 2 historical leagues: the American League and National League. Within these leagues, teams are divided into 3 divisions based on geography: AL East, AL Central, AL West; and NL East, NL Central, NL West. Each division contains 5 teams.
Due to the vast number of fixtures in MLB each year, and to limit travel, regular season games take place as “series”. A series is 2, 3, or 4 games played in a row against the same team. Each MLB team plays 52 divisional games (e.g. AL East v AL East), 64 intraleague games (e.g. AL East v AL Central), and 46 interleague games (e.g. AL East v NL West) in a season.
During the regular season, MLB teams are ranked by win/loss record. Once all games have been played, 12 teams qualify for the postseason – 3 division winners and 3 “best-placed” wild cards from each league.

MLB London Series

2024 MLB Rule Changes
A number of rule changes were introduced to MLB prior to the 2024 season:
- Widening of runner’s lane
MLB has widened the path a runner can take between home plate and first base. A runner will now be deemed in compliance as long as “both feet remain on the dirt path between home and first”. In short, the league has described the rule as “dirt good, grass bad”. - Pitch clock reduction when runner on base
The time pitchers will have to deliver the ball when there is a runner, or runners, on base has been reduced from 20 to 18 seconds. The pitch clock will continue to begin at 15 seconds when the bases are empty. - Base-blocking guidance
New, additional guidance was issued to teams regarding the blocking of bases. Umpires are encouraged to call obstruction, and award the base to the runner, if a fielder is ruled to have “impeded or hindered a runner’s path prior to receiving the ball”. - Mound visits
The number of mound visits a team’s coaching staff can make (to advise a pitcher) has been reduced from five to four per game. An extra mound visit is awarded if a team has no mound visits remaining at the end of the 8th inning.

2025 MLB Schedule
