📜 Miami Marlins History
Established in 1993, the Miami Marlins joined MLB as an expansion team. Originally known as the Florida Marlins (the franchise took on its current name in 2012), the team has always played in MLB's National League East division.
Despite never winning a division title, the Miami Marlins have won the World Series twice: in 1997 and 2003. All 3 of the team's postseason appearances, including the 2 that ended with a World Series championship, have been as a wild card team. The Marlins' '97 victory made them the first team in MLB history to win the World Series as a wild card.
After 18 years of sharing a home venue with the NFL's Miami Dolphins, the Marlins moved to their own purpose-built stadium in 2012 – loanDepot Park. While the Marlins failed to record a playoff appearance in the 2010s, the club has enjoyed a more positive start to the 2020s, and an inaugural NL East title does not seem far away. The reversal of fortunes coincided with the appointment of Kim Ng as the team's General Manager in 2020. Upon accepting her new role, Ng became the first woman to be named to an executive position at any major professional American sports team. She was also MLB's first Asian American General Manager.
