📜 New York Mets History
Founded in 1962 to replace the California-bound Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants, the Mets played their early games at New York's famous Polo Grounds, before moving to Shea Stadium, Queens, in 1964. Shea Stadium remained the home of the Mets until 2008, when the team moved next-door to its current home, Citi Field.
Since their founding, the New York Mets have made it to the World Series on 5 occasions, winning twice, in 1969 and 1986. In 2020, the franchise embarked on a brand new era when it was purchased by businessman Steve Cohen for $2.4 billion. Led by the likes of Francisco Lindor and Max Scherzer, Mets fans are hopeful that the team's first World Series victory since the 1980s is not too far away.
