Football is at the forefront of Serbian sport, with the SuperLiga being the top tier where clubs such as Red Star Belgrade and Partizan Belgrade dominate. Basketball also enjoys widespread popularity, with the Basketball League of Serbia serving as the main competition, where teams like KK Partizan and KK Crvena zvezda (Red Star) are prominent. The Adriatic Basketball League, also known as the ABA Liga, features clubs from the former Yugoslavia, including Serbian teams.
Serbia is a strong force in water polo, hosting the Serbian Water Polo League, where VK Partizan and VK Crvena Zvezda feature prominently. In tennis, Serbia has made a significant mark on the international stage, with the Serbia Open being a notable ATP event.
Additionally, Serbia hosts the Serbia Rally, part of the European Rally Championship, and the Belgrade Marathon, which attracts runners internationally. Volleyball also holds a significant place, with the Volleyball League of Serbia fostering both male and female professional competitions.
Visiting Serbia
Located in the heart of the Balkans, Serbia is one of Europe's best-kept secrets. Belgrade can compete with any continental capital when it comes to cultural sights, special events, and socializing, while Serbia’s striking natural scenery - on display at enchanting Uvac Canyon and the nation’s national parks - offers the perfect counterbalance to its big-city buzz. Historic monasteries and pretty cities like Nis, Subotica, and fortress-crowned Novi Sad are also highlights.
The most popular sports in Serbia are football, volleyball, basketball, tennis water polo, and handball.
We could not get tickets , they were some sort of secret…we left our name and e-mail number of times but nobody answered …meanwhile we saw empty seats everywhere on TV ….then on final day some tickets came up but they were so high up , you probably got oxygen masks …

From a supporter with no family or friends competing perspective there were areas that let us down. Firstly there was no printed program with all the competitors and countries, secondly the state of the toilets was second world for the public, thirdly the organisation at the gates for entry was chaotic and no set times when you could enter the stands. Adequate food has always been a problem at these events.
