📜 Cleveland Guardians History
After starting off life as a Michigan-based minor league team called the Grand Rapids Rippers, the franchise we know today as the Cleveland Guardians moved to the city of Cleveland in 1900. Since calling Cleveland home, the team has gone by many names, including the Lake Shores, Bluebirds (or Blues), Bronchos, Napoleons, and Indians. Following the 2021 season, the franchise ceased using the controversial "Indians" moniker and became known as the Cleveland Guardians, a reference to the "Guardians of Traffic" – 8 towering sculptures that flank Cleveland's Hope Memorial Bridge.
Since becoming one of Major League Baseball's 8 charter franchises in 1901, the Cleveland Guardians have won 10 Central division titles, 6 American League pennants, and 2 World Series championships (1920 and 1948). More recently, between 24 August – 14 September 2017, the Guardians recorded 22 consecutive wins. The winning streak remains the longest in the American League, and the second-longest in MLB history.
