📜 Cincinnati Reds History
A charter member of the American Association, the Cincinnati Reds are one of the oldest teams in baseball and have roots dating back to the 1870s. The team joined the National League (NL) in 1890, and remains an NL team to this day
Originally part of the NL West, the Cincinnati Reds moved to their current division, the NL Central, in 1994. The franchise has enjoyed a long and storied history, with the most successful years occurring in the 1970s when the Reds were arguably the most dominant team in baseball. Nicknamed the "Big Red Machine", the Reds team of that era won back-to-back World Series titles with the help of MLB legends like Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Tony Perez.
The Cincinnati Reds have won 5 World Series championships in total – the last of which was in 1990. In 2022, the team was chosen to compete in the second "Field of Dreams Game" in Iowa.
