📜 Los Angeles Dodgers History
The LA Dodgers are one of the most successful and storied franchises in all of US sport.
Established in Brooklyn in 1883, the team was originally known as the Bridegrooms, before eventually adopting the Dodgers moniker in 1932. 26 years later, the organization left its home in New York and relocated to Los Angeles, where it remains to this day.
A historically significant force in baseball, the Dodgers were the first MLB team to field a black player when, in 1947, the legendary Jackie Robinson pulled on the team's jersey and broke the baseball race barrier. Other former Dodgers who, like Robinson, now hold a place in the MLB Hall of Fame include Sandy Koufax, Rickey Henderson, and Tommy Lasorda.
As of 2023, the Dodgers have won 7 World Series titles and a record 24 National League Pennants. The team's most recent World Series triumph came in 2020, when the West Coast side defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by 4 games to 2.
