The Detroit Tigers are an American professional baseball team that compete in MLB's American League Central division. The team play their home games at Comerica Park in Downtown Detroit.
📜 Detroit Tigers History
One of the American League's 8 charter franchises, the Detroit Tigers have been ever-present in the Motor City since 1894, and are the American League's oldest continuous one-name, one-city franchise. While there are many legends regarding how the team earned their feline nickname, the oldest suggests that it originated from a Detroit Light Military Guard known as "The Tigers".
A franchise with a rich history, the Tigers have won 4 World Series titles to date – in 1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984. Much of the team's success occurred between 1912–1999 when the side called Tiger Stadium home. In 2000, a more modern venue in Downtown Detroit opened its doors to Tigers fans, and remains the team's home stadium to this day.
Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford, Charlie Gehringer, and Miguel Cabrera are among the most famous players to have pulled on a Tigers jersey through the years. After a flurry of strong draft picks in recent seasons, a group of young stars including Riley Greene, Casey Mize, and Spencer Torkelson now aim to take the franchise to new heights.
