📜 Atlanta Braves History
Although they did not move to Atlanta until 1966, the Braves are arguably the oldest continuously operating sports franchise in America. Founded in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings (not to be confused with the Boston Red Sox), the franchise became the "Braves" in 1912 – a term, as reflected in the team's logo, referring to a Native American warrior.
Between 1991–2005, the Atlanta Braves enjoyed the most successful period in their history, winning an extraordinary 14 consecutive division titles on the back of legendary pitchers like Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, and Tom Glavine. During this time, the Braves made it to the World Series on 5 occasions, winning once, in 1995. More recently, the Braves added another World Series title to their collection, achieving victory against the Houston Astros in 2021 to take their total World Series wins to 5.
