The Chicago Cubs are an American professional baseball team that compete in MLB's National League Central division. The club play their home games at Wrigley Field in the Wrigleyville neighbourhood of Chicago, Illinois.
📜 Chicago Cubs History
One of 2 MLB teams in the Windy City, the Chicago Cubs occupy the North Side of Chicago, where they play their games at famous Wrigley Field.
First known as the White Stockings, the Cubs were one of the founding members of the National League in 1876. The franchise took on the Cubs moniker in 1903.
Success came quickly for the Cubs, and the side set a modern-era record winning percentage in the 1906 season before losing to their South Side rivals, the Chicago White Sox, in the World Series of that year. However, it wasn't long before the team made amends, winning back-to-back World Series in 1907 & 1908.
Since then, the Cubs have gone on to appear in 9 more World Series, losing all but their most recent, in 2016, when the club picked up their third World Series title. The win in 2016 ended a 108-year World Series championship drought – a record in MLB. For many fans, the drought was the result of the "Curse of the Billy Goat". In accordance with the famous tale, this was a "curse" placed on the Cubs in 1945 when Billy Goat Tavern owner William Sianis and his troublesome goat Murphy were asked to leave Wrigley Field. Sianis vowed that "them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more", and they didn't (at least as far as World Series championships are concerned) until 2016.
With the curse behind them, and a passionate fanbase packing out historic Wrigley Field each season, more good times lie ahead for the North Side's 3-time World Series champions.
