The Baltimore Orioles are an American professional baseball team that compete in MLB's American League East division. The club play their home games at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
📜 Baltimore Orioles History
The Baltimore Orioles are one of the American League's 8 original charter teams, which also makes them one of MLB's oldest franchises. Originally located in Wisconsin and known as the Milwaukee Brewers, the franchise became the St. Louis Browns in 1902 after a move to Missouri. Following nearly 52 years in the Show Me State, the franchise moved to its current home, Baltimore, after it was purchased by a syndicate in 1953.
The Baltimore Orioles are so-named in honor of the official state bird of Maryland. Before being used by the current Baltimore franchise, the Orioles nickname had been employed by other baseball teams in the city, including the franchise that would eventually go on to become the New York Yankees.
The most successful period in Baltimore Orioles history occurred between 1966 – 1983, when the team played in 6 World Series and won 3 of them. MLB legends like Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, and Cal Ripken Jr. played for the O's during this time.
While the Orioles have failed to reach another World Series since their successful '83 trip, the franchise has won 2 division titles and reached the postseason via a wild card berth 3 times. After a period of rebuilding, the Orioles entered the 2020s stacked with young talent and are now well-positioned to be a force in the AL East for years to come.
