📜 Boston Red Sox History
One of MLB's most historic sides, the Boston Red Sox were founded in 1901 as part of the American League's 8 charter franchises.
Dominant in the early 1900s, the Red Sox won the first-ever World Series in 1903, along with 4 more championships by 1918. However, after trading a young Babe Ruth to bitter rivals the New York Yankees, the team endured an 86-year title drought known as "The Curse of the Bambino". The "curse" was broken in 2004 when another great Red Sox side (nicknamed "The Idiots" by center-fielder Johnny Damon in reference to their care-free, fun-loving approach to the game) proved victorious in a dramatic postseason run that saw the side come back from 3–0 down in the American League Champion Series against the New York Yankees. The Red Sox remain the only team in MLB history to overcome a 3–0 series deficit.
As of 2023, the Boston Red Sox have won the World Series 9 times (third-most overall), with their most recent triumph occuring in 2018.
