The Kansas City Royals are an American professional baseball team that compete in MLB's American League Central division. The club play their home games at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City.
📜 Kansas City Royals History
Established as an expansion franchise in 1969, the Kansas City Royals take their nickname from the American Royal – a popular local livestock show, rodeo, and barbecue championship held annually. Additionally, the name pays homage to 2 former Negro League baseball teams, one of which was also based in KC.
After their inception, it didn't take long for the Royals to assert themselves in MLB, and by 1985, the franchise had won its first World Series championship and appeared in the Postseason 7 times. However, a lean period followed, and the Royals failed to qualify for the playoffs between 1986–2013, which remains one of the longest postseason droughts in baseball's modern era.
In 2014, Kansas City fans rejoiced as the Royals ended their drought and qualified for the Postseason. The team made it all the way to the World Series that year, but were defeated by the San Francisco Giants. Just a year later though, with the help of talented players like Salvador Perez and Eric Hosmer, the Royals went one better than in 2014 and won their second World Series title, defeating the New York Mets 4–1.
In 2022, the Royals announced their intention to move to a brand new stadium closer to the center of Kansas City before 2030. The move will see the Royals play their home games away from Kauffman Stadium for the first time in more than 50 years.
