📜 Seattle Mariners History
The Seattle Mariners have been a part of MLB since 1977, the year the club was established. Playing their games in the American League West division, the franchise began life at Seattle's famous Kingdome before moving to T-Mobile Park in 1999 – a venue that they still call home today.
Taking their nickname from the city of Seattle's marine culture, the Mariners took a while to adapt to life in MLB and did not record a winning season until 1991. While years of moderate success followed – including achieving an astonishing 116 wins in 2001 – Seattle are one of 6 teams never to have won a World Series, and the only active MLB franchise never to appear in the Fall Classic.
Still, the Seattle Mariners are rarely short of league-leading talent on the field and M's fans have been treated to a number of Hall of Fame players on their team over the years, including Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey Jr, and Randy Johnson. After some encouraging performances in the early 2020s, the Mariners made their first postseason appearance for over 20 years in 2022, and it surely won't be long before the franchise earns their fourth division title and a place in their first World Series.
