The Arizona Diamondbacks are an American professional baseball team that compete in MLB's National League West division. The side have played their home games at Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix since 1998.
📜 Arizona Diamondbacks History
Affectionately known as the D-Backs, the Arizona Diamondbacks joined MLB as an expansion team in 1998. Based in the desert city of Phoenix, the Diamondbacks are one of MLB's youngest franchises.
After a disappointing inaugural season in 1998, the Diamondbacks moved quickly to improve, acquiring the likes of Hall-of-Fame pitcher Randy Johnson and setting the tone for the future. For their ambition the D-Backs were rewarded and in 2001 the franchise won its first and only World Series, defeating the defending champion New York Yankees over 7 games. The victory made the Diamondbacks the first men's major professional sports team in Arizona to win a championship.
Despite just 1 playoff appearance between 2014 and 2022, the Diamondbacks retain a loyal fanbase in Arizona. After a strong showing in 2023, there is restored hope that the franchise will soon return to the heights of the early 2000s.
