The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team that compete in MLB's American League West division. The club play their home games at Minute Maid Park in Downtown Houston, Texas.
📜 Houston Astros History
The Houston Astros entered MLB in 1962, alongside the New York Mets, as an expansion team. The franchise's original name was the Houston Colt .45s, but this was changed to the Astros in 1965 to reflect the city's role as home to NASA's Johnson Space Center.
For most of their early years, the Astros played their home games at the inimitable Astrodome – a revolutionary domed stadium often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". During the Astrodome years, the franchise secured a number of division titles, but even better years lay ahead.
At the turn of the Millenium, the Houston Astros left the Astrodome for a new stadium – Minute Maid Park. The venue, converted from the city's former Union Station, features a retractable roof and large model railway. It remains home to the Astros to this day.
Five years after moving into Minute Maid Park, the Astros made their first appearance in the World Series, but suffered a heavy defeat to the Chicago White Sox. Across the decade that followed, the organization embraced new technologies and analytics, transforming the franchise into an MLB powerhouse. The second half of the 2010s was dominated by the Astros, and in 2017, the team won its first World Series. The side returned to the Fall Classic in 2019 and 2021, but lost on both occasions. Finally, in 2022, the Astros secured their second World Series, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4–2.
