The ATP 500 tour level, officially the ATP Tour 500, is the fourth-most prestigious tier of competition within the ATP's annual tour, behind the 4 Grand Slams, the ATP Finals, and the ATP Masters 1000. ATP 500 titles are some of the most coveted among male professional tennis players, and the events are watched by live crowds of thousands, and many more on television across the world.

📜 ATP 500 History

The ATP 500 category was established in 1990, and was initially known as the ATP Championship Series. The tier became known as the ATP 500 in 2009. The ATP 500 is currently comprised of 13 tournaments, some of which date back to the 19th century, staged across 12 different countries.

Roger Federer currently holds the record for most career ATP 500 tournament wins, with 24.

The ATP 500 tour level currently includes 13 events which are hosted in the following countries: Austria, Brazil, China, Germany, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Of the 13 events, 8 are played on a hard court surface, 3 are played on clay, and 2 are played on grass courts.

ATP 500 events are divided relatively evenly across the calendar year, and each takes place across 7-10 days. Tournaments in this tour level typically include a singles draw which takes place across 5 rounds, and a doubles draw which takes place across 4 rounds.
