The Swiss Indoors Basel is an annual men's tennis tournament, first held in 1970. The inaugural title was won by Germany's Klaus Berger, who took home the first prize of a wrist watch, and the tournament quickly grew in popularity. After a short stint in nearby Reinach, the Swiss Indoors found its permanent home in 1975, on the indoor hard courts of St. Jakobshalle, where it remains today. The Swiss Indoors is today part of the ATP 500 tour.
Legendary player Roger Federer is a Basel native, so it will come as no surprise that he has a special place in the history of the Swiss Indoors Basel: the tennis great was a ball boy at the tournament in the early 1990s, and still holds the Swiss Indoors singles record, with 10 wins at the event.
