Next to St. Jakobshalle Basel, there are 1,478 paid parking spaces available (424 of which are outside and 1,054 inside). The St. Jakob car park is operated by the Canton of Basel-Stadt and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Further information on prices and how to get there can be found here. There are 6 disabled parking spaces available at the outdoor car park close to the main entrance.

In addition, St. Jakob-Park shopping centre is located next door to the arena and offers 2,100 parking spaces. The entrance is open Monday to Saturday from 06:00-01:00 and on Sunday from 08:00-01:00. Further information on prices and how to get there can be found here.

🚍 Coach & Bus

St. Jakobshalle can be reached on public bus routes 36, 37, 47, and N20. Get off at St. Jakob stop, which is directly outside the venue.

🚆 Train

St. Jakobshalle is just a 2.8 km (34 min) walk from the city's main train station Basel SBB which has half-hourly connections to and from Zurich (travelling time 60 minutes), Berne (80 minutes), Lucerne (80 minutes), St. Gallen (120 minutes), and hourly connections to and from Geneva (180 minutes). The venue can be reached from the station on foot or by taking tram lines 8, 10, or 11 to Aeschenplatz and changing to tram line 14 which will take you directly to St. Jakob stop outside the venue.

To be within easy reach of the city’s landmarks and attractions without paying a premium for accommodation, stay in Basel-Vorstadt, the neighbourhood encircling the old town. The area itself offers just as much historic character as Altstadt Grossbasel, as well as a number of excellent bars and restaurants.

Although Altstadt Kleinbasel, situated across from Altstadt Grossbasel on the other side of the Rhine River, is still part of the old town, it is known for its cool modern boutiques, galleries, and restaurants, providing the best of both old and new Basel. The neighbourhood is also renowned for its nightlife, as its streets spill with people from cocktail bars, craft beer pubs, and clubs.

Foodies will feel at home in Basel-Matthaus, a quiet refined neighbourhood west of Altstadt Kleinbasel, which is populated with eateries of all kinds from casual cafes to classic Italian pizzerias and stylish fine-dining restaurants.

Families may prefer the quietude and community atmosphere of Bachletten, a quaint tree-lined neighbourhood located next to Basel Zoo and just a few minutes from the centre by tram.

If transport is a priority, stay in the modern and trendy Gundeldingen where the city’s main train station is located, which provides cross-country links.

As Basel is well-connected by tram, it’s easy to explore the city no matter where you decide to stay.

About St. Jakobshalle

St. Jakobshalle is a multi-purpose indoor arena located just outside Basel, Switzerland.

📜 History

St. Jakobshalle opened in September 1976, just over 5 years since construction began on the arena. The venue was built as part of a larger sports complex, with an ice hockey arena and football pitches located on the south side of the arena.

Since 1995, St. Jakobshalle has been the host venue for the annual Swiss Indoors Basel tennis tournament. Some of the other high-profile sports events to have been held at the venue include handball, badminton, and curling world championships, as well as domestic ice hockey matches.

Between 2016 and 2018 the venue underwent a large-scale renovation: the venue benefitted from an increased spectator capacity of 12,400, as well as updated amenities and technological facilities.
