The BMW Open is an outdoor men's tennis tournament, played on clay. The event started back in 1900 as the Bavarian International Tennis Championships – a name by which it is sometimes still known – and was held at the home of MTTC Iphitos, a Munich tennis club, even moving with the club to their new premises in 1930.
In 1990 the tournament was renamed the BMW Open, and in 2025 this annual tournament becomes part of the ATP 500 tour, having previously been part of the ATP 250.
Whilst many home favourites have won the tournament over the years – including Philipp Kohlschreiber, Tommy Haas, and Alexander Zverev – there have been plenty of high-profile winners from other countries too, including Ivan Lendl, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray. Frankly it's no surprise that so many great names have fought hard to win the BMW Open; as well as getting their hands on a trophy the winner is also treated to a stylish set of Bavarian lederhosen! Wunderbar!
