Daniil Medvedev is a Russian tennis player, born in Moscow on 11 February 1996.
Medvedev first played tennis at the age of 6 and turned professional in 2014, after winning numerous junior titles.
Throughout his career, Medvedev has garnered a reputation for volatile on-court behaviour, but his talent is not in doubt: Medvedev won his first ATP singles title in 2018, and has made quick progress since, adding a host of tour-level singles titles to his personal trophy cabinet. In 2020, the Russian won the ATP Finals by beating the world's top-3 players, and in 2021 he won the US Open. In February 2022, Medvedev became the first non-"Big Four" player in over 18 years to hold the ATP singles number 1 spot. In 2023, Medvedev won the Miami Open and reached the semifinals of Wimbledon.
Medvedev also boasts an illustrious team tennis careeer: he holds the distinction of having won all of the Davis Cup, ATP Cup, and Laver Cup in a single season - a feat he achieved without being defeated in a single match.
Medvedev plays with a clumsy-looking style, accentuated by his long limbs and 6 foot 6 inch frame, but he produces shots which are strong, accurate, and laced with spin. Medvedev's serve is particularly potent, and his ability to cover the baseline and produce power from all sorts of positions means his defence is world-class. Conversely, Medvedev can put his opponents on the back foot from the very beginning of games: he adopts a very deep returning position, well behind the baseline, and as such his aggressive returns are hit almost like a standard groundstroke.
Medvedev's nickname is Bear, which originates from the Russian name for the animal, “medved”.
Я была первый раз на турнире ATP и осталась довольна. Публика была доброжелательна ко всем участникам турнира.Работа сотрудников и волонтеров тоже была без претензий.
It was a good experience and the crowd management was pretty good, except for foreigners who attended with passport verification. It was not so convenient to reenter the Diamond Court without being escorted by the friend who booked the tickets on our behalf. The ushers at the gate kept on insisting to check the original booking on the mini app, and passport verification was not sufficient.
It was an amazing experience being the first time in China. The event was well organized, and the courts were clean. Watching the top players live was out of this world.
It was an experience of a lifetime, unforgettable. The only thing we would have loved is the use of Visa instead of drawing cash as some of us travelled far, we came from South Africa. We will definitely attend again
Very well organised n helpful staff

This review is from a visiting American’s point of view… Once you have purchased your tickets online and entered all the information that that requires, to enter the stadium you just need your passport. From what i saw you can bring in a backpack - did not seem to have a ‘clear bag’ policy. Of course you need to be able to show your seat number if needed once you are in the stadium. The stadium and the surrounding grounds are really nice, especially at night when the buildings light up. There are food vendors, some promotional booths and a small retail shop where you can buy Hangzhou tournament related items. The restrooms have mostly squatting toilets but there was one “accessible” (western) toilet in each. I would recommend going to at least one match in which a Chinese player is playing. The fans really get behind them which makes the experience more fun. If you ever have a chance to attend the Hangzhou Open- take it.
