Prior to 2022, when the Dallas Open first took-over from the New York Open, the ATP Tour had not set foot in Dallas for almost 40 years. Whilst the Texan city was no stranger to top-class tennis – it had previously hosted Challenger events, and the year-ending World Championships of Tennis Finals was held there until 1989 – the Dallas Open is certainly among the more illustrious tennis events to be hosted in the city in recent years.
It began life as an ATP 250 event, but from 2025 it has been elevated to an ATP 500 competition and moved to Ford Center at The Star – the headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys NFL team.
Although it may initially have been daunting to take over the mantle from the Big Apple, the Lone Star State has proven itself to be a big draw for some of the world’s best players: American Reilly Opelka won the inaugural event, while in 2023 Wu Yibing made history and became the first Chinese player to win an ATP singles title.
