📜 Carlos Alcaraz History
Alcaraz has already surpassed several age-related records for male tennis players, and, having been widely-tipped as a future world number 1 for a number of years, achieved this feat in September 2022, whilst still a teenager.
Alcaraz is known for his physicality and stamina, as well as the power he can produce in his accurate baseline shots. He enjoys surprising his opponents with drop-shots, and is able to mix-up his versatile, well-rounded game to suit a range of more experienced opponents. He has reached at least the second round at all 4 Grand Slams, and in 2021 reached the US Open quarterfinals, at the age of 18. In 2022, Alcaraz became the youngest winner of the Miami Open men's singles title, and only a few weeks later he won the Madrid Open title, defeating Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic on his way to the final. The Spaniard's fantastic start to the 2022 season saw him enter the ATP top-10.
Alcaraz's stellar season peaked a couple of months later, when he won the 2022 US Open. His win over Casper Ruud in the final not only saw the Spaniard claim his first Grand Slam singles title, but also beat the Norwegian to the top of the ATP singles rankings. At 19 years, 4 months, and 6 days old, Alcaraz became the youngest world number 1 in ATP ranking history.
During the 2023 "Sunshine Double", Alcaraz won the BNP Paribas Open, but could not retain his Miami Open trophy, and was defeated at the semifinal stage by Italian Jannik Sinner. During the French Open, Alcaraz reached the semifinals, where he was defeated by Djokovic after suffering cramps, however in London a few weeks later the Spaniard got his revenge, beating the Serb in a dramatic 5-set final at Wimbledon, to win the men's singles title at the All England Club. Alcaraz's stunning win made him the first player outside of the "Big 4" to win the trophy since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002, and broke Djokovic's 10-year unbeaten run on Wimbledon's Centre Court.
