2024-25 Premier League Pre-season
There are no formal pre-season dates in English football, since each club dictates their own schedule during this period regarding their players’ return to training and exhibition matches played ahead of the new campaign. Players will usually return to training around 4-6 weeks ahead of the new season; some players will usually be given leave to return later if they’ve featured in an international tournament for their country over the summer.
During this period, Premier League clubs will schedule several pre-season friendly matches. These exhibition games – which often form part of a pre-season tour of Asia or North America, for example – serve several purposes, as they help players work their way back up to match fitness, allow managers to refine their tactics for the new season, and expand the club’s commercial interests to other markets. As exhibitions, these matches do not count toward either team’s competitive record.

2024-25 Premier League Season
The Premier League does not feature post-season competitions such as playoffs, so the league season is the entire competition. The 2024-25 campaign starts on 16 August 2024 and concludes on 25 May 2025. The 20 teams play each other home and away for a total of 38 matches apiece, with 3 points awarded for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a defeat. Teams are ranked on points, then goal difference, and then goals scored.
The team that finishes top of the table are crowned Premier League champions, while the bottom 3 are relegated to English football’s 2nd tier, the EFL Championship, and are replaced by 3 promoted teams. European football is also up for grabs based on league position. The top 4 clubs qualify for the UEFA Champions League, while the team that finishes 5th qualifies for the UEFA Europa League, as does the team that finishes 6th if the winners of the FA Cup also finish in the top 5. If the team that wins the League Cup finishes in the top 5 or 6, then the 6th or 7th-placed team is awarded qualification to the UEFA Europa Conference League.

SAOT was also used at UEFA Euro 2024 and has already been used in the UEFA Champions League, 2022 FIFA World Cup, and Serie A. It helps VAR teams make quicker and more accurate offside decisions by using specialized cameras tracking 29 different body points on every player.

The 2025-26 Premier League season is likely to run on a similar schedule to this season with a standard August-May calendar. The fixtures should be released in June 2025.
