Ipswich Town are an English football club who play in the EFL Championship. They play their home games at Portman Road and are known as the Blues or the Tractor Boys.
📜 Ipswich Town History
The Tractor Boys were founded in 1878, known at the time simply as Ipswich AFC. They adopted the Ipswich Town Football Club moniker 10 years later upon merging with Ipswich Rugby Club.
It was not until the 1930s that they became professional, and they joined the Football League in 1938.
They reached the top flight for the first time in 1961, and remarkably became English champions in their first season, earning them the first major honour in the club's history and qualification into the European Cup.
A 13-year spell with Sir Bobby Robson in charge as manager between 1969 and 1981 brought further success in the form of the Texaco Cup, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Cup.
Ipswich have yet to hit such heights again and even fell to League One in 2019, but they returned to the Championship in 2023.
