Manchester City, also known simply as City, are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. They compete in the English Premier League, and their home venue is the Etihad Stadium. Their nicknames include the Citizens and the Sky Blues.
📜 Manchester City History
City were founded in 1880 as a church football team known as St. Mark’s (West Gorton), and were renamed Gorton AFC and then Ardwick AFC in the following years before becoming Manchester City in 1894.
The Citizens enjoyed some success over the years but perennially lived in the shadow of their local rivals Manchester United, until they were taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. The takeover transformed them into an elite side, and they have consistently challenged for major honours since.
The Sky Blues set a record of 100 points in the Premier League in the 2017-18 season, and in the following campaign they became the first men’s side to win English football’s domestic treble.
City have not only become relentless collectors of silverware in recent years, they have also gained a reputation for playing the most attractive football in the Premier League.
