Old Trafford is located in Stretford, Greater Manchester, approximately 4 km southwest of Manchester city centre. It is easily accessible by car or public transport, although due to congestion the latter is recommended.
Below you can find general information on travel and parking for Old Trafford. Individual events may have additional/restricted services available, and so we recommend clicking through to the event and viewing the Travel & Parking tab for event-specific information.
Old Trafford has 2 designated options for matchday parking:
Both car parks can only be accessed via Wharfside Way with the relevant permits. Anyone attempting to access via Chester Road will be directed around the traffic system which will cause further delays.
Trafford Council operates a pay-to-park facility on event days within the Trafford Village area of Trafford Park, approximately 1.0 km (12 min) walk from Old Trafford. The parking charge is £7 in allocated parking bays on-street.
Other independent approved parking locations are pay on entry and include:
Taxis can pick up and drop off on roads surrounding the venue, but there may be congestion in the area so early arrival is recommended. Likewise, if you're getting picked up after an event, you may want to walk some distance away from the stadium before requesting it.
Bus is a popular way to reach Old Trafford because of its connections with multiple routes:
As a major English city, Manchester’s accommodation can be quite costly, although there are a number of brilliant budget hotels and hostels for those watching their pennies. Manchester is certainly not short of swanky modern and grand traditional high-end hotels for those more concerned about luxury either.
Refreshments can be purchased from a number of kiosks around the stadium.
Although the stadium has a dedicated Manchester United Football Ground railway station, matchday services to and from it have not run since 2018 due to health and safety concerns.
Trafford Park is the closest operational station to Old Trafford, 2.3 km (28 min) walk from the stadium.
If arriving at Old Trafford by tram, there are multiple options:
If you are travelling to Old Trafford by bicycle, there are free cycle racks located at the following car parks:
Please note, you will need to use your own bike lock. Bicycles must not be secured in any other areas across the stadium site at any time. Bicycles secured outside of authorised cycle racks will be promptly removed, which may result in damage for which the club will not be held liable.
Old Trafford is approximately a 4.0 km (48 min) to 5.0 km (60 min) walk from Manchester city centre, so provided you're prepared for a moderate walk it can be practical to arrive on foot. Likewise, if you're travelling from Salford or Stretford, then the stadium may well be within a 2.0 km (24 min) to 4.0 km (48 min) walk.
Turnstiles are located around the perimeter of the stadium designated North (Sir Alex Ferguson Stand), East, South (Sir Bobby Charlton Stand) and West (Stretford End). Please use the turnstile that corresponds to your ticket.
Manchester United's away turnstiles are located at the South East corner of the stadium and will open 2 hours prior to kick-off.
Toilets are located throughout the concourse.
Accessibility entrances are located at each corner of the stadium and in the Stretford End (West Stand).
Old Trafford has a total of 278 wheelchair positions and 278 dedicated amenity seats located around the stadium. Disabled supporters applying for tickets in the ballot can request additional friends and family tickets, and if successful in the ballot, seats will be reserved nearby for the additional tickets.
Old Trafford has a dedicated "Ability Suite" which is a matchday lounge designed for supporters in certain areas of the ground who have access requirements or disabilities.
Located in the South-East Quadrant and accessible to supporters with tickets in relevant areas, the Ability Suite has lowered kiosk facilities (suitable for those using a wheelchair), accessible toilets, television screens, and is open before, during, and after the game. Supporters are also able to use the Ability Suite to recharge their powered wheelchairs/scooters or portable ventilators.
There are alternative accessible catering options around the stadium, in any areas where accessible tickets are sold, meaning you can enjoy a drink or bite to eat whilst visiting.
Supporters who are blind/partially sighted are able to use audio commentary headsets at every home game.
These are available to collect from a steward adjacent to block E132 and do not need to be booked in advance. Commentary is provided by MUTV and starts at kick-off.
Any away supporters or supporters who sit elsewhere in the stadium (i.e. not in block E132) who also require the use of one of the headsets can use these as they are wireless and work all over the stadium. These would need to be requested in advance by emailing accessibility@manutd.co.uk so arrangements can be made ahead of the game.
Old Trafford has a changing places facility behind the East Stand Wheelchair Platform in the concourse adjacent to the South East Quadrant.
There are 2 changing places facilities in the Stadium; one behind the East Stand Wheelchair Platform in the concourse adjacent to the South East Quadrant, and another in Stretford End Tier 2. These facilities are available for use by supporters who are unable to use standard accessible toilets, or anyone else who would require the use of it. The changing places facilities have more space than standard accessible toilets, and all the necessary equipment, including height adjustable changing benches and hoists.
Manchester United welcome supporters who have an assistance dog but would appreciate advance notification (in line with GDBA guidelines) and where possible, the club asks owners to ensure that their assistance dog is made familiar with the surrounding area of the stadium prior to the Matchday.
United have "here to help" stewards on matchdays and "here to help" booths which are located throughout the stadium and clearly visible.
The club also has a dedicated team of stewards to assist supporters using the wheelchair platform and the amenity seating areas, as well as Stadium Access Stewards in other areas of the stadium, who are also on hand to assist supporters with accessibility requirements.
Old Trafford has a capacity of approximately 74,310. However, the capacity does differ between events depending on the seating configuration.
