Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers are a football club in the English Premier League. Often known simply as Wolves, they play at Molineux Stadium. 

📜 Wolverhampton Wanderers History

Wolves were founded in 1877 as St. Luke's FC, a church team, and 2 years later they merged with The Wanderers, a local cricket and football club, to become Wolverhampton Wanderers. 

They were 1 of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888, and they are 1 of just 5 teams to have won all 4 of English football's professional divisions, along with Preston North End, Portsmouth, Sheffield United, and Burnley.

As well as 3 top-division titles, Wolves have also won 4 FA Cups and 2 League Cups. 

The club also played a key role in the formation of the European Cup (now the UEFA Champions League) in 1955; after they became one of the first clubs in Great Britain to have floodlights installed at their stadium, they held several high-profile, televised "floodlit friendlies" with some of Europe's top clubs. 

Wolves were then among the first English teams to participate in the European Cup, and they also reached the semifinal of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1960 and final of the UEFA Cup in 1972.
