West Brom was founded in 1878. They were initially known as the West Bromwich Strollers, but they adopted the Albion name – becoming the first team in the country to do so – just 2 years later, taking the suffix from a local district in West Bromwich where a number of the players lived or worked.
They became 1 of the 12 founding members of the Football League in 1888, and that same year they won the FA Cup for the first time in their history; they have lifted it several more times over the decades, along with the League Cup in 1966.
The Baggies' sole top flight title came in 1920.
