Tottenham Hotspur are a football club in the English Premier League. Based in north London, they are known simply as Spurs, or the Lilywhites. Tottenham played at White Hart Lane for much of their history, before replacing it with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019.

Spurs were founded in 1882 as Hotspur Football Club by a group of schoolboys who played for Hotspur Cricket Club; with cricket played in the summer, football kept them occupied during the winter months.
The club changed its name 18 months later to differentiate themselves from another London-based football club also named Hotspur, and in 1895 they turned professional.
They have enjoyed steady success for much of their history, winning at least one major honour every decade from the 1950s through to the 2000s – including the inaugural UEFA Cup of 1972 – which is a feat only Manchester United have matched in English football.
The Lilywhites typically play an attacking brand of football befitting their club motto, Audere est Facere, which means "To Dare Is to Do."
