The top tier of the Spanish football system has announced the schedule for the 2023/24 season. With fixtures starting on the weekend of 12-13 August 2023 and running through to 26 May 2024, there are so many matchups to look forward to this coming season!
2023/24 Key La Liga Fixtures
Champions FC Barcelona – who will be playing their home games at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys while the Camp Nou gets some much-needed renovations – will face bitter rivals Real Madrid at their temporary home on 29 October 2023 in the first El Clásico of the season. Real Madrid will host Barcelona at the Bernabéu on 21 April 2024. The Madrid derbies between Real and Atlético are due to take place on 24 September 2023 (Estadio Metropolitano) and on 4 February 2024 (Bernabéu).
The Seville derbies between Real Betis and Sevilla are set to take place on 12 November 2023 (Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán) and 28 April 2024 (Estadio Benito Villamarín). The Basque derbies between Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao are scheduled for 1 October 2023 (Reale Arena) and 14 January 2024 (San Mamés Stadium).
2023/24 La Liga Teams
The 20 teams will play each other home and away for a total of 38 matches apiece. At the end of the 2022/23 season, Espanyol, Elche, and Real Valladolid were relegated to the Segunda División while Granada, Las Palmas, and Alavés were promoted to La Liga. Teams will be hoping to finish in the top positions in the table with first taking the title as well as a UEFA Champions League place. The teams in 2nd to 4th place will also qualify for the Champions League, while 5th place qualifies for the UEFA Europa League as does the team that finishes 6th if the winners of the Copa del Rey also finish in the top 5.
