Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, S.A.D. - more commonly known as UD Las Palmas or simply as Las Palmas - is a Spanish professional football club based on the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands and currently playing in the country's top tier La Liga. The club plays home games at Estadio de Gran Canaria.
Founded in August 1949 after being known as the Royal Spanish Football Federation for 2 months prior, the club was formed as a merger of the 5 existing clubs on the island - Club Deportivo Gran Canaria, Atlético Club de Fútbol, Real Club Victoria, Arenas Club, and Marino Fútbol Club - to encourage the best Canarian players to stay on the island instead of moving to the mainland. The club reached the top tier for the first time in the early 1950s and again in the 1960s, however, in the 1990s Las Palmas spent most of the time in the second tier and below. At the end of the 2022/23 season, the club secured promotion to La Liga once more by finishing second in the Segunda División.
