Real Betis Balompié - also known as Real Betis or simply Betis - is a Spanish professional football club based in Seville, Spain. The club competes in La Liga and was founded in 1907. It plays its home games at the Estadio Benito Villamarin in the south of the city.
Betis won the league championship in 1935 and the Copa del Rey in 1977, 2005, and 2022. The club's motto is "Viva el Betis manque (aunque) pierda!" (meaning "long live Betis even if they lose") because of its turbulent past and numerous relegations. The name "Betis" comes from a Roman name for the Guadalquivir river that flows through Seville.
