Club Atlético de Madrid, S.A.D., also known as Atlético Madrid or simply Atléti, are a football club in Spain's La Liga.
Atléti were founded in 1903 by a trio of students from the Basque region living in Madrid, who considered the club to be a youth branch of their childhood team, Athletic Bilbao. Like Bilbao, they initially wore blue and white halved shirts but soon switched to the red and white stripes they still don today; supposedly both clubs used to buy Blackburn Rovers kits in England, but after failing to find the kits on a trip to the country in 1909, they instead swapped to using Southampton shirts. From their humble beginnings, Atléti are now Spain's 3rd most successful club behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. They have reached double figures for both La Liga titles and Copa del Rey victories, and they have also won the UEFA Europa League on several occasions; they have also been losing finalists in the European Cup/UEFA Champions League multiple times.
