Villarreal Club de Fútbol, S.A.D., more commonly known as simply Villarreal, are a football club who play in Spain's La Liga. They were founded in 1923, but it was not until 1998 that they reached the top-flight. Since then – save for relegations in 1999 and 2012, from which they bounced back immediately – they have been a regular fixture in the division despite their relatively small stature. Indeed, Villarreal has a population of around 51,000, meaning almost half the town can fit into the Estadio de la Cerámica on matchdays. The club's first major honour came in 2021, when they stunned Manchester United to win the UEFA Europa League final.
