For many years, the San Diego Padres existed in the shadow of their star-studded California rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers – but not anymore. After a long rebuilding process, the Padres have assembled a young, talented roster ready to take the team to new heights, and maybe even all the way to the World Series. When the likes of Manny Machado, Juan Soto, and Fernando Tatis Jr. are on the field, anything is possible, and for the Padres, the cloudless California sky is the limit!

2023 Schedule
The San Diego Padres will play 162 MLB games during the 2023 season – 79 at Petco Park, 2 at Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium in Mexico for the MLB Mexico Series, and 81 on the road.
2023 is the first season of MLB’s new, more balanced schedule, and the Padres will face every other MLB team at least once. This year, the Padres will play 13 games against each of their fellow NL West sides ( Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Colorado Rockies); 64 intraleague games (v non-division NL teams); and 46 interleague games (v AL teams).
As of 10 May, the Padres hold a 19–17 record for the 2023 season. In their next game, on 10 May, the Friars will face the Minnesota Twins at Target Field. The Padres will bring the regular season to a close on 1 October with a game against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.

2023 Rivals
As a team based in California, the San Diego Padres most heated rivalry is with fellow Golden State side the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, the Swingin’ Friars also enjoy a unique rivalry with the Seattle Mariners.
The Padres-Mariners rivalry was forged when interleague play began in MLB in 1997. The 2 teams have played each other nearly every year since, and as both passionate fan bases have seen their fair share of struggles with their respective teams, the contests are usually good-natured. Due to the fact that Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder calls both San Diego and Seattle home, the rivalry has become known as the Eddie Vedder Cup in recent years, and remains one of MLB’s most unique traditions.
Arguably the Padres strongest rivalry is with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Divisional rivals as well as members of the same state, the Padres-Dodgers rivalry has developed naturally over the years and the sides regularly enjoy heated encounters. Today, Interstate 5 links Petco Park and Dodger Stadium, which ensures that Dodgers-Padres games are populated with large contingents of fans from both teams. Yet more fuel was added to the fire of the rivalry in 2017 when the NFL sent the San Diego Chargers franchise to LA, leaving the Padres as the only professional sports team in the city.

2023 Postseason and World Series
The San Diego Padres have made the MLB Postseason 7 times. Though the Padres are one of 6 teams never to have won the World Series, they have reached it twice – in 1984 & 1998.
Over the past 10 years, the Padres have made the playoffs twice, most recently in 2022, when they were eliminated at the National League Championship stage by the Philadelphia Phillies.
The 2023 MLB Postseason will take place in October, once the regular season has ended. 12 teams qualify for the MLB Postseason, which is a 4-round playoff system: Wild Card Round (Best-of-3), Division Series (Best-of-5), Championship Series (Best-of-7), and World Series (Best-of-7).
