Established in 1974, when it was known as the Adams Division, the Atlantic (ATL) Division is one of the 2 Eastern Conference divisions along with the Metropolitan Division. The top 3 teams in the division will qualify for the playoffs and will be joined by the 2 next highest-scoring teams across the entire Eastern Conference.
The current 8 franchises in the Atlantic Division (in alphabetical order) and their home rinks are:
- Boston Bruins (TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA)
- Buffalo Sabres (KeyBank Arena, Buffalo, New York, USA)
- Detroit Red Wings(Little Caesars Arena, Detroit, Michigan, USA)
- Florida Panthers(FLA Live Arena, Miami, Florida, USA)
- Montreal Canadiens(Centre Bell, Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
- Ottawa Senators (Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
- Tampa Bay Lightning(Amalie Arena, Tampa, Florida, USA)
- Toronto Maple Leafs (Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
The Bruins have been enjoying a very impressive season with the most points of any team in the league, meaning they’re odds-on to win the Presidents’ Trophy at the end of the regular season. Other strong contenders include the Toronto Maple Leafs and the strong Tampa Bay Lightning. Despite being the oldest and most successful team in the league, the Canadiens have struggled in recent years and this season is no different as they currently sit at the bottom of the table with minimal hope of postseason action.
Rivalries
As the Atlantic Division is home to the oldest and the most successful franchises in the NHL, it is rich with rivalries! The division features 4 of the “Original 6” teams (Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs) and these teams always have heated meet-ups, especially the Canadiens-Maple Leafs and the Canadiens-Bruins. With 3 Canadian teams and 2 Florida teams, there are some huge rivalries in this division. Some of the big games to look forward to in the 2022-23 season are:
- Toronto Maple Leafs v Montreal Canadiens · 18 Feb 2023
- Tampa Bay Lightning v Florida Panthers · 28 Feb 2023
- Ottawa Senators v Toronto Maple Leafs · 18 Mar 2023
- Boston Bruins v Montreal Canadiens · 23 Mar 2023
- Ottawa Senators v Toronto Maple Leafs · 1 Apr 2023
- Toronto Maple Leafs v Montreal Canadiens · 8 Apr 2023
- Montreal Canadiens v Boston Bruins · 13 Apr 2023
2022-23 Schedule
The first Atlantic Division games in the 2022-23 NHL Regular Season were on 12 October 2022. Teams from each conference play 28 games in their own division (4 against each of their 7 Atlantic Division opponents) and 24 games against the 8 opponents in the other division (Metropolitan) in their conference (3 games against every team) after which they may progress to the NHL Playoffs.
You can find the full 2022-23 NHL schedule here.
2022-23 Playoffs and Finals
The 2023 playoffs will begin after the regular season has finished in mid-April. Of the 32 regular season teams, 16 qualify with 8 from each conference (the top 3 teams from each division plus 2 conference teams with the next highest points). There are 4 rounds of best-of-7 series: first round with 16 teams in 8 x best-of-7 series; second round with 8 teams in 4 x best-of-7 series; Conference Finals with 4 teams in 2 x best-of-7 series; and the Stanley Cup Finals with 2 teams in 1 x best-of-7 series to determine who lifts the Stanley Cup.
2022-23 Ticket & Prices
Each arena has its own seating chart and each will vary, however, NHL venues typically have: a lower level close to the ice with seats in the front rows offering premium views from beside the plexiglass; a club or mezzanine level with elevated views of the game; suite levels offering an exclusive experience with additional perks such as catering, a wait service, and a private entrance; and an upper level furthest from the ice, but offering views across the entire arena and the most affordable tickets.
Some of the most affordable tickets in the Atlantic Division are USD $11 (CAD $15) for basic tickets while some of the most premium tickets cost up to $31,532 (CAD $42,460).
How to Get Cheap Tickets
Tickets will vary significantly in price depending on which teams are playing, the arena, the day of the week the game is on (weekends are usually more expensive), and the stage of the league. Prices are dynamic and change over time and between sellers for the same game. For less popular games, there may be last-minute deals available; however, waiting can also result in ticket shortages or higher prices if demand is high. Koobit helps you find the right tickets at the best price by comparing prices from primary and secondary sellers.
Where to Buy Tickets
At most arenas, you can purchase tickets at the on-site box office. Generally, buying your ticket online is more convenient because you can easily compare options and prices and guarantee a seat before arriving at the arena.
How to Get to a Game
Most NHL arenas are in the downtown district of a city and are surrounded by lots and garages offering pre-bookable nearby car parking spaces. Due to the central locations, venues are also easily reached by public transport. Visit an arena’s travel & parking page for more information. For event-specific information, click through to an event and view the Travel & Parking section.
2022-23 Merchandise & Apparel
