2022 was supposed to be a year of transition for Cleveland’s baseball team, as the former “Indians” became the “Guardians” and fielded a team of raw, future stars. However, the ball club defied all expectations, topping the AL Central, winning the Wild Card Series, and narrowly losing at the AL Divisional stage to the New York Yankees. Harnessing the confidence and experience gained from last season’s success, the Guardians will be hoping to return to the Postseason in 2023 and make a run at bringing home their third World Series championship.

As of 29 June, the Guardians boast a 39–40 record for the 2023 season. In their next game, on 29 June, the Guardians will face the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. 2023 Rivals
The Cleveland Guardians count the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, and Cincinnati Reds among their biggest rivals.
All members of the AL Central, the Guardians, Tigers, Twins, and White Sox share a mutual rivalry born out of years tussling for the division title. Added geographical and historical elements play into the Guardians-Tigers rivalry as the teams are less than a 3-hour drive from each other and are part of a larger, long-standing Ohio v Michigan tradition.
The Guardians' rivalry with fellow Ohio natives the Cincinnati Reds is known as the Buckeye Series. Each season, the winner of the most games between the 2 sides is awarded the Ohio Cup, and the right to call themselves MLB's pride of Ohio.
The Cleveland Guardians will play the Detroit Tigers 7 more times this season:
