For 2 years now, 8 franchises from England and Wales have battled it out in one of cricket’s newest and most exciting competitions – The Hundred. A unique, fast-paced take on cricket, the tournament has been embraced by fans for its all-action matches and inclusive environment in the stands. Cricket fans can expect more of the same when the event returns to venues across the UK between 1–27 August 2023.
As the name suggests, The Hundred is a 100-ball cricket competition. Hundred games are played in a similar way to Twenty20 cricket, except rather than each innings being 20 overs, an innings is restricted to 100 balls instead. The team that scores the most runs with their 100 balls wins the match.
As part of its modern and inclusive take on the game of cricket, the 8 city-based franchises that take part in The Hundred have both a men’s and women’s team. Additionally, all matchdays are doubleheaders, meaning fans can enjoy a men’s game and women’s game for the price of a single ticket.
The 8 franchises (16 teams in total) that make up the men’s and women’s Hundred competition are:
- Manchester Originals Men / Manchester Originals Women (Emirates Old Trafford)
- Birmingham Phoenix Men / Birmingham Phoenix Women (Edgbaston)
- London Spirit Men / London Spirit Women (Lord’s)
- Oval Invincibles Men / Oval Invincibles Women (The Kia Oval)
- Trent Rockets Men / Trent Rockets Women (Trent Bridge)
- Northern Superchargers Men / Northern Superchargers Women (Headingley)
- Southern Brave Men / Southern Brave Women (The Ageas Bowl)
- Welsh Fire Men / Welsh Fire Women (Sophia Gardens)
In the short history of the Men’s Hundred, both Southern Brave (2021) and Trent Rockets (2022) have won the tournament once. On the women’s side of the game, Oval Invincibles have been victorious in the competition twice in 2 attempts.

In 2023, the likes of Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Ellyse Perry will all compete for a chance to take home the coveted Hundred title, with games hosted by venues across the country – from Lord’s to Headingley. Luckily for fans, the tournament has always aimed to make tickets available for anyone who wants to attend – from first-time visitors to cricket fanatics – and consequently, those wanting to be a part of the action can find seats across a wide range of price-points.
A family friendly atmosphere is also a Hundred trademark and children are actively encouraged to join in with the fun. On top of games, activities, music, and fast-paced action to enjoy, all standard tickets for 6–15 year olds are just £5 at every Hundred venue. Better yet, kids under 5 go free!
With so much happening both on and off the pitch (BBC Introducing has even lined up live music performances at each and every game), The Hundred is set to be the most fun you can have at a cricket stadium this summer. From the opening match on 1 August to the Final on the 27th, expect soaring sixes, tumbling wickets, and cricket at its most exciting!
