Overview
- ⏱️4 daysApproximate duration
Burghley Horse Trials is an annual 3-day event in the sport of equestrian and is held at Burghley House near Stamford, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, currently in early September. Like many 3-day eventing meets, it is held across 4 days.
Since 1961, horse trials have been held at Burghley House when its owner the 6th Marquess of Exeter, an Olympic gold medalist in athletics, decided to host the event. Since then, no other international horse trials site has staged as many championships. It has competition at CCI5* (5-star) level which is the highest level in eventing. The Burghley Young Event Horse final has been run parallel since 1990 where 4-year-old and 5-year-old horses are judged on their future potential.
Burghley Horse Trials is classified by the FEI as one of the 7 leading 3-day events in the world (the others being the Badminton Horse Trials, the Kentucky 3-Day Event, the Australian International 3-Day Event, the Luhmühlen Horse Trials, the Maryland 5 Star, and the Étoiles de Pau) and it is part of the Grand Slam of Eventing along with the Badminton Horse Trials and the Kentucky 3-Day Event.
