The Adelaide Equestrian Festival, formerly known as the Australian International 3-Day Event, is an annual 3-day event in the sport of equestrian and is held in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. The event is unique in being held in a city centre (taking place in the Adelaide Park Lands) but like most modern 3-day events, it takes place over 4 days.
The Adelaide International Horse Trials was an event first held in 1997. It replaced the Gawler Horse Trials which had taken place outside of the city since 1954. In its period as the Gawler Trials, it was a successful competition and was selected to host the Eventing World Championship in 1986. After moving to Adelaide, the event was known as the Adelaide International Horse Trials until 2007 and has developed significantly into a popular event where spectators can enjoy the excitement of intense competition.
It is one of only 7 annual Concours Complet International (CCI) 5-star events in the world (the highest level of competition) as classified by the FΓ©dΓ©ration Γquestre Internationale (FEI) and the only one held in France. The 6 other CCI 5 Stars are the Burghley Horse Trials, the Badminton Horse Trials, the Kentucky 3-Day Event, the Maryland 5 Star, the Γtoiles de Pau, and the LuhmΓΌhlen Horse Trials.
