The Badminton Horse Trials is a thrilling 5-day event – one of only 6 annual Concours Complet International (CCI) 5-Star events as classified by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) – in the sport of equestrian. It takes place annually in spring within the grounds of Badminton House, the seat of the Duke of Beaufort in South Gloucestershire, United Kingdom.
The iconic event was first held in 1949 and organised by the 10th Duke of Beaufort. This inaugural event acted as a competition to allow British riders to train for international events. Badminton was the home of the first European Championship in 1953 and it was first televised in 1956. The Horse Trials are held in the beautiful Badminton Park.
Together with the 5-star rated Kentucky 3-Day Event and the Burghley Horse Trials, Badminton forms the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing.
