Antwerp

Antwerp is home to Royal Antwerp FC, based at Bosuilstadion, who play in the Belgian First Division A, the top tier of Belgian football. K Beerschot VA is another top tier Antwerp football team who are based at the Olympic Stadium. The city also has a Pro Basketball League team, the Antwerp Giants, based at Lotto Arena.

Antwerp is Belgium’s second largest city after Brussels, and being strategically positioned on the Scheldt River leading to the North Sea, it is also the second largest seaport in Europe. Much of the city’s legacy therefore centres around its impressive seafaring history, which can be explored in the impressive museums of Het Eilandje (The Little Island), an industrial section of the port which has been transformed into a cultural epicentre. Meanwhile, the grand Historisch Centrum (the historic centre) awaits to impress visitors with its grand Flemish architecture built as a symbol of the city’s wealth. Although a strong sense of history prevails in Antwerp, it is very much a modern forward-thinking city with a student-centric atmosphere and a soft spot for design.
