If location is most important to you, stay in the Historisch Centrum where Antwerp’s top historic landmarks are located, as well as the Meir commercial shopping street. At night, this area comes alive as everyone heads to one of many popular bars and pubs.
Eilandje, the old port located north of the city centre, is the cultural hub of Antwerp. This newly developed area featuring the city’s top museums is popular with younger crowds who appreciate style and design.
The most stylish part of the city, however, is Zurenborg, a quiet neighbourhood sitting just a couple of kilometres east of the city centre, known for its grand belle epoque mansions and palaces.
Combining affordability and convenience, Schipperskwartier and Universiteitsbuurt are chilled yet vibrant neighbourhoods sandwiched between the historic centre and Eilandje. Whilst they are within a few minute’s walk of both areas, they remain relatively inexpensive.
Immediately south of the historic centre is Theaterbuurt, a prominent inner-city area known for its grand theatres and boutiques. Although it’s a central neighbourhood, it is far enough away from the tourist hub to enjoy the city at a slower pace.
Antwerp is connected by a reliable tram and bus system, which allows you to get from one part of the city to another quickly and easily, no matter where you stay.
