The Tour of Flanders is an annual one-day road cycling race traditionally held in Belgium in early April. The Tour is considered the most important one-day race in Flanders and 1 of the 5 Monument races in modern professional cycling.
This classic was first held on 25 May 1913. Out of the 37 entrants that year, Belgian rider Paul Deman claimed first place after an arduous 330km course. Following a short interruption during World War I, The Tour has been held every year since 1919. This record-breaking streak was maintained during 2020 when the race was postponed to late October due to the COVID pandemic.
Although The Tour’s course has changed substantially over the years, it typically crosses the Belgian provinces of West Flanders and East Flanders. The race is characterised by its challenging steep cobbled climbs, some of which go beyond 20 percent gradients. With an annual distance of about 250km, Flanders offers cyclists a real test of their skills.
Tour of Flanders Tickets
The race takes place over public roads and so no entry ticket is required to watch the cyclists; simply choose your spot along the route and get there in plenty of time before road closures to cheer them on. Hospitality tickets are available in some locations, which are located along different parts of the route.
