The Toray Pan Pacific Open is an annual women's tennis tournament which is part of the WTA 500 tour. The event was founded in 1976 as the Sillook Open, before being renamed as the Pan Pacific Open in 1984. With the exception of the 2019 event, which took place in Osaka, all editions of the Toray Pan Pacific Open have been staged in Japan's capital, Tokyo. Previous winners of the event include Virginia Wade, Billie Jean King, Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Martina Hingis, and Naomi Osaka, who fittingly won the event during its single year in Osaka, the city of her birth!
Although primarily an outdoor event, the event's main show court – the Ariake Colosseum – was one of the first tennis courts in the world to be equipped with a retractable roof, allowing play to continue in all conditions.
