Elina Svitolina is a Ukrainian tennis player, and the first woman from her country to break into the WTA top-10.

Svitolina was born in Odesa, and both of her parents are former sportspeople. A successful junior player, Svitolina reached 2 girls Grand Slam finals, and soon began her ascent up the professional rankings.
In 2013, Svitolina won her first WTA-level title, in Baku, Azerbaijan, a win which contributed to her getting into the top-50 for the first time. After consolidating her game and winning 3 further tournaments, Svitolina finally entered the top-10 in 2017. As well as her success on the WTA, Svitolina has reached the quarterfinals or further at all 4 Grand Slams, and in 2018 won the year-end WTA Finals in Singapore.
In 2022 the Ukrainian took time off the tour to have a baby.
In 2023, only a few weeks after returning to the professional tennis circuit, Svitolina was given a wild card to Wimbledon. She embarked on an incredible run to the semifinals, defeating players such as Venus Williams and Iga Świątek on her way to the last 4, where she was beaten by eventual winner Markéta Vondroušová.
Elina Svitolina is noted for her on-court movement and agility, and her determined defence. She can elongate rallies, often forces her opponents into extra shots when she is on the defence, and is adept at capitalising on their resulting errors.
