Race for the Ring: Top Teams Prepare for 2025 NFL Playoffs

Another absorbing NFL regular season has come to a close, but American football fans won’t have to wait long for their next gridiron fix. January means postseason football, and the NFL Playoffs are right around the corner.

After jostling for position over the last 4 months, the NFL’s best 14 teams will now compete in knockout games with the ultimate goal of reaching, and winning, the most famous contest in sport – the Super Bowl. The playoffs begin this weekend with the Wild Card Round (11–12 January), before the top seeds from both the AFC (Chiefs) and NFC (Lions) enter the fray in the Divisional Round (18–19 January).

Only 4 teams will survive to the penultimate stage of the NFL Playoffs – the Championship Round (26 January) – in which the remaining sides from the AFC and NFC will battle to become champions of their conference. For the 2 winners, only one more game awaits: the Super Bowl (9 Feb), and a shot at securing the Lombardi Trophy, a championship ring, and a place in history.

While plenty of stories are sure to develop over the coming weeks, the Kansas City Chiefs’ quest for a third Super Bowl win in a row will be among the major headlines, as well as the Detroit Lions' push for their first-ever Lombardi. Elsewhere, Josh Allen will hope to take the Buffalo Bills to their first “Big Game” since 1993, just as Jayden Daniels aims to cap off his rookie year by leading his underdog Washington Commanders on a fairy tale postseason run. Whatever happens, the 2025 NFL Playoffs will, as always, provide some of the most thrilling, and nail-biting, sporting action of the year.
