Basel is an enchanting medieval city built along the banks of the Rhine River at the confluence of northern Switzerland, eastern France, and southwestern Germany. Thanks to its unique geographical position, Basel is considered a multicultural city with a colourful history, and an interesting mix of architecture. Its romantic riverside views have attracted some of the literary world’s most celebrated writers throughout the years, including Friedrich Nietzsche and Herman Hesse. Today, the city attracts artists from far and wide to its highly prestigious international art fair, Art Basel, and audiences to its creative theatres. As a university city, the city’s grand history is wonderfully contrasted by a modern and progressive vibe.
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport (EAP) is the city’s primary airport offering flights to and from many major European cities including London, Amsterdam, Madrid, and Berlin. The airport is located 10 km northwest of the city centre, which can be reached in around 40 minutes by taking the number 50 bus to Brausebad followed by the number 1 Bahnhof train to Basel SBB rail station.
