Named after the River Don which runs through its centre, Doncaster is an endearing minster town. Surrounded by the hilly Yorkshire countryside yet just 30 km away from the city of Sheffield, Doncaster is ideal for both a country retreat and a city jaunt. Although much of the town is newly developed, Doncaster has its fair share of heritage. In fact, it’s home to many delightful English Heritage sites dating from the 11th to 19th centuries. While Brodsworth Hall offers a fine example of peaceful Victorian country living, Conisbrough Castle offers insight into the town’s somewhat bloody yet exciting history.
Doncaster’s primary airport is Doncaster-Sheffield Airport (DSA) which offers direct flights to and from many major European cities. Those travelling from outside of Europe will have to take a connecting flight to reach Doncaster. The airport is located 10 km southeast of Doncaster, which can be reached in around 25 minutes by taking the 57C bus to Doncaster Interchange.
Doncaster is usually mild in September, with highs of 18°C and an average temperature of 14°C. The climate tends to be dry, with an average 17% chance of rain each day.
